WelfareThis is a featured page

All MCR members can draw on the support of the welfare team at any time during their studies. The college has long experience of aiding those in personal, academic or financial difficulties and most problems can be resolved successfully. The Senior Tutor, Tutor for Graduates, Tutor forWomen, Chaplain, Domestic Bursar, Graduate Advisors, Junior Deans and college doctor and nurse are all part of the welfare team and are happy to be consulted. The MCR Committee also provides Male and Female Welfare Officers, who campaign on your behalf and are available to listen to all kind stresses and strains, no problem too big or small. This year's Officers are Jenny Thompson and Nick Rounthwaite.

Welfare events occur throughout term time, and include the fantastically popular MCR Brunches on Sunday mornings. The tag-line is simple but memorable: Bring yourself, receive food, feel better. These events are generally "drop in" (i.e. you can decide whether to come on the morning/evening), do not feature alcohol, and are a great opportunity to meet other members of the MCR in informal surroundings, for a gossip, moan, or simply some free food. You will be invited to these events, either via a termcard in your pidge, or by email to the MCR mailing list.

Outside of these events, Jenny and Nick are happy to meet at any time for a coffee, beer or simply just a chat across the dining table in Hall. We're always willing to take you out of college for a cup of tea and some cake, and we'll pick up the bill. We can be your sounding board for anything from academic problems, to family upheaval, mental health issues, relationship worries and more. Remember, what may seem like a small problem to one person can be a catastrophe to another, so do not feel that your problem is "too trivial".

Since the MCR is part of the JCR, graduate students at Corpus have full access to JCR welfare provision too. This means that the members of the Equal Opps Committee are available for you. Their details are listed below.
Equal Opps Officer: samkeliso.blundell@ccc
Disabilities Officer: adam.salt@ccc
Black Minority Ethnic Officer: angela.eshen@ccc
LGBTQ Officer: grace.weaver@ccc
Gender Officer: leanne.price@ccc

Jenny Thompson

JT Hello, my name is Jenny and I'm in the first year of a DPhil in History. Before coming to Corpus I studied at the University of Sheffield. I've only been in Oxford since September '08 so can well remember what it's like to be new, scared and excited all at the same time! I'm enjoying working with Nick organising the fortnightly brunches and keeping the special Welfare Cupboard well-stocked. As Female Welfare Officer I usually drop into the MCR most days so am available for a chat or a walk around the meadow. If you don't fancy opening up to me, remember that I can point you in the direction of other friendly faces; don't hesitate to get in touch. Lastly, having just about survived my first year here I'd like to reassure you that most problems can be sorted out, and there are loads of people here to help. And free food on Sundays!

Nick Rounthwaite

Nick I'm the Male Welfare Rep. If you need welfaring, brunching or condoms (In the MCR kitchen) please try and find me or Jenny. I have been in Oxford for years and should be about for several more as I continue to pimp aluminium. This means I I have a fair background knowlege of the welfare schemes in Oxford, such as walk home and night busses.

Nick the old man
