Computing

Computing - Corpus Christi College MCR
Me, somewhat over-excitedly modelling our computing facilities

As MCR Computing Officer, I'm responsible for maintaining the MCR computing facilities and liasing with the College on computer-related matters. A few guidelines for MCR computer use:

1) We do have free laser printing for MCR members. However, we don't have unlimited funds for laser printer toner, so in the best interests of maximum amounts of printing, I've set the printer to default to 'Economode' which conserves ink while keeping text perfectly legible. Please do try to be conservative with your printing (print two pages per side of A4 if possible, don't print out drafts unless necessary, etc.) to help us stretch out our resources.

If, for whatever reason, you need a higher quality print (e.g. a CV), then you can change this setting back when you print. To do this, go to Print, then click on the Properties button in the top right of the dialog box (right of HP LaserJet 1018), then select the Finishing Tab at the top, and then untick the 'EconoMode (Save Toner)' option in the bottom right. Hit okay (bottom right) and then it should be good to go!

If you discover that we've run out of toner or paper, please email me at <andrew.stewart AT ccc.ox.ac.uk> and I'll see to replacing it as soon as possible.

2) If a serious fault appears while you are using the PC, it would be greatly appreciated if you could note down the fault message precisely and email it to me <andrew.stewart AT ccc.ox.ac.uk>, with a description of what was happening on the computer more generally, to me. That will help in diagnosing the error, fixing the PC and preventing it from happening in the future.

3) Please remember to switch off the TV using the remote when you have finished using the PC. This helps to prevent damage to the screen, as has occurred a couple of times in the past when an error screen has been displayed for a significant period of time.

4) Please do not view inappropriate material on the MCR PC - please read the University and College Computing Rules!

5) Please do not attempt to download files using a file sharing peer to peer program (such as Bittorrent). You will be wasting your time as the PC prevents such programs from being installed. I am aware of an individual at another Oxford college that was fined 250 pounds for downloading a TV show.

6) If you would like to see any functionality added to the PC then email me and, as long as it is in accordance with relevant computing rules, I will try to have it implemented.
